Information from Debbi Geer:
Headwoodriver Cemetery is located about a 1/4 mile west
of Rust Road on the Moulton Road. The Moulton Road is directly
across from the Catholic Springs Road where the two meet at IL 159
about 1/2 mile north of the Macoupin-Madison county line.
Debbi writes, "The WPA project says that there is not any military
veteran buried there but I suspect that there is one, that being
Abraham Gabriel Preuitt (husband of Millie Wood aka Mildred).
Right now I don't have any military info for Abraham in my notes simply
because he's a cousin to me. His son Valentine was quite noted
for his military career and Abraham's father Solomon Preuitt was quite
noted for his military career too in Madison Co. The early Pruitt
men of Madison, Macoupin, Jersey and Greene counties were quite
involved with the militias and wars (Black Hawk, Mexican, Indian, Rev
and Civil War). I can't help but think that Abraham was
too. Since Millie was buried in that cemetery and the Wood
Cemetery is no more than a few miles west, her parents could be buried
there and it's my understanding that the Wood brothers were also active
in the militias. I know there is an annual Wood Family Reunion
each year and know that one of the Wood cousins did an extensive
research on the Wood family.
I will see if I can come up with additional burials to
help protect the cemetery. I just hope that any owners in recent
years have not done anything to it for their own benefit."
