SW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 17

The Cape Cemetery (a timber cem.) is situated in the timber on a 40 acre tract of Land and owned by the Carlinville National Bank. It is in a Pasture. The present Tenant of the Land in which Cem. is located, is Mr. Clint Caudle, address Carlinville, Ill. It got its name from a Man by the name of Cape, Who at one time owned the 40 acres the Cem. is on. He lived in a Log House near the Public Highway. "The Old Carlinville Bunker Hill road." On the East side of the road.

He sold the Land to Mr. August Hacke many years ago and Mr Hacke's son Adolph Inherited the land from his father. Adolph Hacke sold the Land to the Carlinville National Bank, the present owner, By Mortgage. It is situated one (1) Quarter of a mile from Public Road near the North Line fence East of road on a large Hill South of a Bottom tract of Land now in cultivation. At the present in wheat. This Hill from Bottom tract of Land Is Very high and Steep. It is 100 feet high from Level of Bottom Land. There is a public road running East & West from Carlinville Bunker Hill road, running east to the May SE road. This Cem. is situated South of the road quarter of a mile from this road..

The Old Log House in which Mr. Cape lived has been torned down many yrs ago. Large Soft-Maple trees, in very good Shape at Present time East of this Log house or cabin was another Log house. Relatives of the Capes lived in it. Nobody knows what their names were. The two houses were about 20 rods apart. There is One Very Large Soft-Maple tree standing where this Log house stood. The cem. from these log houses is Situated 40 rods North and about 80 rds East on a very large and narrow hill.

Interviewed two People, Mr. Clayton K__ and Mr. Guy Burleson. From whom all information was obtained. They don't think there were ever any deeds or any attention as to care of cem. There is an Old plank fence around part of cem. in very Bad Condition. Just three standing stones; a Mr. Hall, and over an infant child, name Talbert, and a Mr. R. Talbert. A few rocks scattered around to mark graves. Three graves have Mounds all the rest are all Sunken never been no attentions paid to them.

This cem is surrounded by all Kinds of large and small trees, and Post Oak Brush.
