born in Jefferson Co, KY-- possibly brother and sister; Louisville is
in Jefferson Co, KY; both converted to Methodism same date [1837].
** A John Allen began paying taxes in 1823 in Grayson County. This John
Allen was living beside Samuel Keller in 1830, Grayson Co, KY but did
not appear on tax roll 1826.
** A John Allen lives near a Thomas Davis in neighboring Harden Co, KY
in the 1820 census .

Notes for James Allen:
When Rev War ended 1783, VA and NC ceded their land claims as far west
as the Mississippi to the new US Government. Because settlers were
already there before the war, KY and TN quickly became
states-(KY[1792], TN [1796)-affecting research in this location and
time period. Vital records for earliest KY counties: GRAYSON [1810-see
parent counties of Hardin and Ohio]; HARDIN and WASHINGTON [1792]-see
parent county, Nelson. All are central KY, south of Ohio River.
** = Undocumented, from Commodore Allen:
** CENSUS 1830, Grayson Co, KY; A John Allen listed beside Samuel
Keflershowsa son James'age. This John Allen began paying taxes in 1823.
"Early Settlers Greene County" list a James Allen, 1835; also Jesse,
John and Zachariah, 1819; copy poss JMiller l997.

Greene Co Hist & Geneal. Soc. 1987, pg 20; George S. WOOD to
Clarissa DAVIS, 4 November 1836, #1031; copied by JMiller, 2000.
Significant DAVIS surnames per Commodore Allen:
** Presence of Clarissa DAVIS in home of Richard and Letitia DAVIS Hart
[1850 census]. Clarissa DAVIS WOOD in home of James and Delila DAVIS
Allen, [1860 census], JMiller, 1998.
** References to Daniel and Sarah DAV1S Teaney and Leander and
Elizabeth DAVIS Mounts, all same area, all sisters. These families came
to IL from Grayson KY, near Louisville, given as birthplace of James
Allen 1813.
** A John Allen is in neighboring Hardin Co, KY, 1820 census, living
near a Thomas DAVIS. Commodore Allen suggests james1 father was named
John and we know DAVIS was Delia's [Delilah] maiden name. If they
followed traditional naming patterns, 'our1 James-Delia named 1st son
John Davis for his father; 2nd son, William Thompson for James'
grandfather and Thompson for delia's grandmother [maiden name].
CENSUS 1840 US Greene County, IL; James, pioneer farmer and carpenter,

According to Commodore Allen:
** James paid taxes in Macoupin Co in 1840.
** Other significant relationship in this census is that of Samuel
Keller. He and brother Jacob Keller married sisters Cinderella and
Levina DA VIS respectively.
** James Allen's obituary confirms wife's maiden name as DAVIS,
underlines the Allen-Davis-Keller connected relationships. Tax roll
information not proven.

NOTE: Mattie's obituary mentions 4 sons, no daughter-nor does the 1900

Ann or Anna Allen did sign permission for John M. Allen to marry widow
Elizabeth Whitworth Miller, mother of the orphaned sons of Elizabeth
and Isaac Miller-before that couple moved from Illinois in 1867.
Interesting that William Andrew Miller, son of Isaac and Elizabeth
Whitworth Miller would one day marry Mary Elizabeth Allen, daughter of
William and Eveline Hall Allen.
