Earl Hodges gave birth date and the following. Seth's is listed in a Power of Attorney in settling Elizabeth's his first wife's estate in Georgia about 1813. Franklin Co GA Deed Book TTT 1812-1814 pg 59
Served in the Mississippi Territory Militia from 22 Sept. 1813-20 to Dec 1813 and the West Tenn. Militia from 28 Jan.1814-May 10 1814. Was in the Battle of Horshoe Bend Tohopeka, Mar.1814 under commander Gen Andrew Jackson. Source National Archives Service records in an unknown book listing the War of 1812. 28 Sept. 1815 received a Tennessee General Land Grant #7790 for 20 acres in Lincoln Co Tenn.... this land was located in the 2nd District on the waters of Norris Creek a north branch of the Elk River.... Source Copy of the grant. In the summer of 1814 he traveled to Illinois Territory with John Love. They were the first white men in the area. Summer of 1815 he and John returned to Illinois planted crops hunted and fished and laid crops before returning to Tenn. In spring of 1816 brought his family to Macoupin Co Ill. Source Macoupin Co History. He is in the 1818 Census of Green Co since which was before it was Macoupin Co. Source Macoupin Co Deed Book.
In 1829 Macoupin Co was formed. Seth was appointed to a 5 member commission to select a site for the county Seat. Source Macoupin Co History. 1 June 1829 donated 15 acres of land with 15 acres of land from Ezekiel Good for the County seat of Carlinville Source Deed Book 13 april 1829 was elected as one of the first 3 county commissioners of Macoupin Co. Aug. 1829 Joseph Borough laid the town square and 50 lots for a fee of $17.50. 7 Sept. 1829 Seth received a contract to build the first county courthouse a 18x24 t story log house for which he received $150 in 3 payments. 20 Mar 1833 purchased 40 Acres at $1.25 an acre
Death: fell in a well. One leg was amputated. Source Macoupin Co History and estate papers.
He was intestate and his estate was administered by John Love and John M. Palmer.

Information sent by Glenn Wagers in Sept. 1998. He quotes from the History of Macoupin Co Ill, 1878. Give information on his marriage. On pg 162 "About the year 1828, Theodorus Davis, Jun., settled in Macoupin bottom, in the line of the present Carlinville and Alton road, and was the first settler in the township. Mr. Davis was then a young man just starting in life having recently married the daughter of Joseph Hodges, of Hodge's, Creek. Page 26 says Theorodus, Jr., wedded a widow lady, sister of John Burlson. Was she born a Hodges or a Burleson? Page 17, "In Sept. 1827, John Bourleson, a well-known citizen of the county, and half brother of Seth T. Hodges, with his mother's family came to the county, the home of Mr. Hodges, who took them under his charge.

In Seth's Boyhood Days written in 1932, pg 5 says that father is a veterinarian . This report also tells of his mother's death when he was 6 years old,and his dad dying when he was 11. He went to live with his oldest brother. Marita Gladson and Gayle Weber have a copy. Gayle had the original handwritten copy. Evidence suggests his dad remarried 2 months after mom died, and that when dad dies when William is 11 years and went to live with Joseph his oldest brother who was a half brother, son of Elizabeth Thrasher.
