Obituary: Virden Today, at about 12 M., Jake ODENWALDER,
of this city, was, it was supposed, fatally wounded by a pistol shot from
the hands of Bertie, a 5 year old son of G. W. DILLON. The two boys
had abstracted the postol from a drawer in Mr. D's picture gallery during
his temporary absence, and while handling it the weapon was discharges,
inflicting a serious and probably fatal wound. The ball entered just below
the right shoulder blade, traversing the entire breast to the left side,
where it lodged. Dr. BARTLETT was immediately called, and after
examining the nature of the wound gave it as his opinion that it would
probably prove fatal. The parents are almost distracted, and have the sympathy
of all our citizens.

Obituary: GIRARD, Ill., Sept. 30. - Dayton OHMART, 76, Girard farmer, was knocked
down and trampled to death about noon Saturday by a bull which had gone
into the wrong pen and which OHMART was seeking to run into another
pasture. He lived but a few minutes after the accident.
Attempting to run the bull out of the pen with a pitchfork the animal
became too much for OHMART because of the latter's age and the man was
knocked down, trampled on and rolled along the ground by the bull, which
had no horns. Neighbors saw what was happening and chased the bull away
and took OHMART into the house where he died.
He was born on Nov. 23, 1856 at North Manchester, Ind., and came to
Illinois 67 years ago with his parents. On Sept. 26, 1878 he and Miss
Susan RIFFEY were married. They lived on a farm northwest of Girard until
1911 when they moved to the plot on which they now reside.
Surviving are his wife, Susan; one daughter, Mrs. Eva KING of Pennsylvania;
three sons, Oren, Virden; Chester, Roodhouse; and Charles, Utica, N.Y.;
eight grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Sophia STEELE, Mt. Auburn.
The body was taken to the Berry Mortuary where Coroner James A. MCBRIAN of
Staunton conducted an inquest tonight, a verdict of accidental death being
returned. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
